Scientific Conference on the Role and Importance of the Decisions of European Court of Human Rights

The final Oral Round of the Conference for the Law Students “The Role and Importance of the Decisions  of European Court of Human Rights in the Legal System of the Republic of Armenia” for the law students, was held on 10 December 2010 in the Central Office of the Armenian Young Lawyers Association.

In 1950, all States and interested organizations were invited by the UN General Assembly to observe 10 December as Human Rights Day (resolution 423(V)). The Day marks the anniversary of the Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. On this assumption, the Armenian Young Lawyers Association NGO, in cooperation with the Law Foundation of Armenia and “LEGAL ALLIANCE” Law Firm,  with financial support of Dutch Stitching OXFAM NOVIB Organization organized the Republican Conference for the Law Students “The Role and Importance of the Decisions of European Court on Human Rights in the Legal System of the Republic of Armenia,” which was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Conference consists of two rounds: written and oral. 14 students from the law schools of Yerevan and from the regions had applied for participation in the conference. 8 applicants introduced their reports in time. In compliance with the official rules of the conference, the authors of the best 5 reports were authorized to take part in the final, oral round. The participants introduced their papers, which referred to the precedents of the European Court of Human Rights, the ECHR rulings against the Republic of Armenia and the procedures of their implementation. A jury of well-known layers in composition of advocates Mr. David Abgaryan, the AYLA Vice-President, Mr. Arthur Grigoryan and Mr. Marat Atovmyan evaluated the best oral reports of the young lawyers.

Shushanik Tadevosyan, 3rd year student of European Regional Educational Academy was recognized “The Best Oralist” and the winner of the oral round of the competition. She was awarded the third prize of the Conference.

Anahit Harutyunyan, 1st year student of Magistrate from the law department of Yerevan State University was awarded the prize for the “Best Report” and won the second prize of the Conference.

Gevorg Hakobyan, 2nd year student of Magistrate, of the International Scientific and Educational Center of the National Academy of Sciences of the RA was announced the winner of the Republican Conference for the Law Students “The Role and Importance of the Decisions of European Court on Human Rights in the Legal System of the Republic of Armenia.”

The winners received valuable prizes and corresponding certificates. Participants of the written round of the Conference received participation certificates as well.
