83 Years of Armenian Advocacy

On 9 July 2005, the Armenian advocates celebrated the 83rd anniversary of advocacy in Armenia. The celebration, which was initiated by the Law Foundation of Armenia and the Armenian Advocates Union, was held in Tekeyan Cultural Center in Yerevan.

Representatives from the Advocates’ Unions of Armenia, the National Assembly, other organizations, and mass media were among the invitees. Mr. Karen Zadoyan, Chairman of the Armenian Law Foundation and the Armenian Young Lawyers Association, opened the ceremony. He noted the importance of the event, emphasized that the development of the Advocacy Institute in Armenia has no other alternative, and added that only an independent, powerful and self-governing advocacy institute would be able to realize serious reforms in the legal system.

Further Mr. Misha Piliposyan, Head of the Advocates’ Union, Advocates Yenok Azaryan and Ruben Sahakyan, as well as Garegin Arsenyan, delegate of the National Assembly of Armenia greeted the participants.

The invitees then discussed the issues of concern in a more informal atmosphere during the reception. The organizers hope that the celebration will become a tradition and the 85th anniversary of advocacy in Armenia will be celebrated more solemnly.

“H1”, “Armnews”, “Armenia”, “AR”, “Yerevan”, “Kentron,” and “Prometheus” TV Companies, as well as The Public Radio of Armenia and “Iravunk” weekly covered the event.
